Wisdom Teeth Removal in Elk Grove, CA

It’s not always necessary to remove wisdom teeth, but if they are causing issues, our team will safely extract them to prevent oral health complications. Wisdom tooth extraction is a standard procedure to remove one or more third molars, often due to impaction, crowding, or infection. It helps prevent pain, swelling, and potential damage to surrounding teeth.

Removal is usually done in a single visit under local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia, with minimal downtime.

Process of Wisdom Teeth Removal

In your consultation, our team will evaluate your teeth and oral health history, and take X-rays to identify where your wisdom teeth are located.

Once we’ve reviewed your treatment plan with you, we will provide instructions on preparing for your wisdom teeth removal before the procedure, such as dietary restrictions and recommendations. If you would like to receive oral sedation (for patients 15 and older) we will also review that process.

During your extraction appointment, sedation and anesthetic will be applied. Then, your dentist will extract the necessary wisdom teeth while maximizing comfort.

Next Steps After Wisdom Teeth Removal

Once your wisdom teeth have been removed, you are given aftercare instructions for managing any pain, swelling, and bleeding. Follow these instructions carefully to avoid complications with the healing process.

During a follow-up appointment, we will check your healing and discuss any issues. If you have any problems following your treatment, please reach out to our team.

FAQ

  • At what ages are wisdom teeth usually removed?

Wisdom teeth are often removed between the ages of 17 and 25. During this timeframe, tooth roots are not fully developed, so extraction is easier, and recovery typically happens faster. However, factors like pain, impaction, and crowding can determine how immediate the extraction needs to be.

  • Which wisdom teeth are harder to remove?

Lower wisdom teeth are generally more challenging to remove than upper ones because they are often impacted and closer to major nerves. Horizontally impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth can be the most difficult.

  • How long does wisdom teeth extraction recovery take?

Wisdom teeth extraction recovery typically takes 7 to 10 days, with most discomfort fading within the first three to five days. Follow our aftercare instructions—such as avoiding straws, smoking, or hard foods—to ensure a smooth recovery and reduce the risk of complications like dry sockets.
